BSD Printing & Graphics - Job Layout & How-To Guides
Postcard Layout Guide
When designing a postcard, it is important to consider the layout and dimensions to ensure that it meets postal regulations and looks visually appealing. By following these guidelines, you can create a visually appealing and regulation-compliant postcard that effectively conveys your message.
Dimensions
The standard size for a postcard is 4 inches by 6 inches. However, other sizes such as 5 inches by 7 inches or 6 inches by 9 inches can also be used. Make sure to check with your local post office for any specific size requirements.
Bleed
To ensure that your postcard prints correctly, add a bleed of 0.125 inches on all sides. This means that your design should extend beyond the trim line by 0.125 inches on each side.
Safe Zone
Leave a safe zone of at least 0.125 inches from the trim line. This is the area where important text and graphics should be placed to avoid getting cut off during trimming.
Orientation
Postcards can be designed in either landscape or portrait orientation. Consider the amount of text and graphics you want to include when deciding which orientation to use.
Design Elements
Include eye-catching images, clear and concise text, and a call to action. Use contrasting colors to make important elements stand out.
Postal Regulations
Make sure to follow postal regulations when designing your postcard. This includes leaving enough space for postage and addressing, avoiding glossy or reflective surfaces, and using a legible font for the address and return address.
